Council Tax

2012 / 2013 Annual Council Tax Bill

Why has my Council Tax bill gone up?

The amount you pay for your Council Tax is split between Melton Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council, The Fire Service, Leicestershire Police & the Parish you live in.

Melton Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council & Leicestershire Fire & Rescue have not increased the Council Tax. The Police authority increased their share of the Council Tax by 2.5% and your Parish may have also increased the Council Tax depending on where you live.

Please see your Council Tax bill for a breakdown of how these charges have been arrived at.

Council Tax Leaflet Clarification

The Council would like to clarify that in the introduction in the Council Tax leaflet, by the Leader – Councillor Byron Rhodes writing on behalf of Melton Borough Council, where he states that the Council Tax has not increased, this comment was in respect of the Melton Borough Council tax element rather than in reference to any of the other pre-cepting Authorities.

Council Tax payments for    ***Santander Customers ***

We have been informed by the banking industry (BACs) that a number of Direct Debits were recently recalled. In some cases this may have happended 2 or 3 times.

We have been informed that in some cases Santander no longer have an instruction to pay certain customers Direct Debits or the Direct Debit has been cancelled despite regular payments being previously received.

We are urging customers to speak to your Santander branch as soon as possible. in the meantime you will shortly receive a letter informing you of the recent problem and in some cases a new Direct Debit may need to be set up to cover any further Council Tax payments. Santander have informed us that if you go into your branch they will reinstate the Direct Debit straight away.

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and we continue to work with Santander to resolve this issue. Santander can be contacted 0845 724 724
