Changes to council tax support 2014/15
Below are the changes to our Council Tax
Support scheme for 2014/15. The changes were made by Councillors
following a scheme consultation, while taking into account the
feedback you gave through our online survey.
- Form 1 April 2014 all working
age people receiving council tax support will have to pay at least
12% of their council tax. The maximum support that can now be
awarded is only 88% of the council tax charge.
- The government has ensured
that pensioners are still protected through this scheme.
The Council can confirm that following
discussions with our partners across Leicestershire around how we
will protect vulnerable people from increases in Council Tax, we
will continue to have a local Discretionary Council Tax Support
scheme. This scheme is there to help people who are experiencing
severe financial hardship who need extra help to pay their Council
Tax. You do not have to be in receipt of Council Tax Support to
apply for Discretionary Council Tax Support.
