Mencap Youth Clubs and Summer Scheme (for young people with special needs)

Summer Scheme

Melton Mencap provides social and leisure activities to children and y/p aged 9 to 21 years. All will have learning disabilities, many with associated conditions, Autism, communication and sensory impairment, challenging behaviour or physical disabilities.

The summer scheme runs for 18 days during the school holidays at Birchwood School offering 50 places per day to children and y/p aged 9 to 19 years.

Saturday Clubs  Age 9 to 19 years

This club goes out on the first Saturday of each month as a group of 10 friends who enjoy spending time together having fun, experiencing new opportunities, visiting old favourites like swimming, bowling and the cinema and accessing community social and leisure facilities that all young people enjoy. Life and independence skills are developed and lots of laughs are had by all involved.

Friday Night Club 19-25

So many young people are reaching the age of 19 and suddenly their social life and leisure stops. Our existing adult club for 19 to 40 years is fully subscribed and some of our young people, we increasingly find, need a transitional club that supports them from youth into adulthood.

This Friday night club will be an extension of all our other youth services that will allow people to continue to access the leisure opportunities we have provided for them up to 19 years. They will be able to continue to develop their skills, self-esteem, wellbeing and confidence with friends and peers, in an environment that is safe, stimulating and supportive. We need to prevent these young people being plunged into isolation at a time in life when it is so important to be with friends.
