Opening times

The children's centre has reception cover at the following times;

Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm

Closed weekends and bank holidays

The centres are available to hire between the hours of 8am and 10pm, 7 days a week.

The Edge is the second Sure Start Children's and Community Centre to be opened in the borough.   It has been funded by Leicestershire County Council and Melton Borough Council and is supported by the South Melton Residents Association. 

The centre named The Edge by local resident Jane Sampson was officially opened on Monday, 6th April by Melton youth champion and borough councillor Pam Posnett, the Mayor of Melton Mal Sheldon, and Leicester Tigers and Ireland rugby star Geordan Murphy. 

The opening day was a great success with more than 80 families joining in the celebrations and enjoying a range of activities throughout the day.  Activities included an Easter egg hunt, a climbing wall, a bouncy castle, baking, morris dancing, a barbeque and lots more. 

It was a day where the whole community got together with representatives from Melton Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council, Leicestershire Primary Health Care Trust and Melton Police to get a taste of what the new centre had to offer.

The Edge consists of a main hall for group activities, a consultation room, a reception area,  a community kitchen and an early years education area with enclosed outside play space and garden, and offers a wide range of activities for the local community including an art & crafts group, sports, social events and a youth club to name a few. 

Activities will be tailored for all sections of the community, from the under-5s to pensioners, with an aspiration that as far as possible the activities and services will be free for local residents.
