Melton Mowbray CCTV

Melton Borough Council in partnership with the Safer Melton Partnership (SMP) runs a state of the art digital Closed Circuit TeleVision system.

Developments to the system are planned in consultation with Melton Borough Council and our operational partner Leicestershire Constabulary, who staff the system with Community Volunteers. The CCTV system aims to provide targeted coverage of Melton Town Centre and the improvements developed have had benefits for all users of the town centre by providing reassurance and enhancing their sense of safety in the town. By having close links to the Police, SMART (the retail crime scheme) and PubWatch, the CCTV system supports an integrated approach to incidents and events in the town. This approach has led to higher crime detection rates with 120 arrests over the past 30 months involving the CCTV system. It has also acted as a significant deterrent to those wishing to act in an anti social manner in the town centre.
