PRIDE WEEKS -PREVIOUS YEARS
Pride in Melton 2010
Read about the activities that
occurred over the four pride weeks during the summer of 2010
below;
EGERTON PRIDE WEEK 26th – 31st
July
During Pride in Egerton a visual audit of the Egerton ward was
carried out, looking for environmental issues. 30 issues were
noted and all of these will be actioned by various partners and
individuals within 6 weeks. This compares to 58 issues that
were noted in the summer of 2009, which demonstrates nearly a 50%
decrease in environmental issues since last year.
The
free bulky items collection was a big success with many households
on the ward taking the opportunity to throw away items which
otherwise may have ended up as fly tips across the
estate.
Bulky items put out from
households on Morley Close.
On the Monday afternoon a community consultation exercise was
carried out across the Egerton Ward. 12 members of MBC staff
and 3 members of Leicestershire Constabulary took part in this door
knocking exercise to ask people about their views and opinions and
how we can improve our services. Over 100 homes in the
Egerton ward were visited, resulting in 81 access to services
questionnaires being completed and 16 First Contact
referrals. Some of the points raised require a direct
response and action, which partners have agreed to do within 6
weeks, other comments will help to inform the future work and
activities of the Decent Place to Live group in their updated
action plan.
On the Wednesday an embankment clear up and treasure hunt was
organised. Six budding volunteers from the ward joined Lucie
Keeley, Neighbourhood Support Officer, to clear up litter from the
embankment and joined in a litter quiz. The four young people
who helped out on the day all won a well deserved family ticket to
Twinlakes, kindly donated by Environmental services.

The official opening of the new lottery funded Multi-Use Games
Area on West Avenue took place on the Thursday 29th
July. The MUGA was opened by special guest Paul Anderson.

The week ended successfully with a community fun day on West
Avenue Green including a free BBQ, climbing wall, dance, rounders,
football, face painting, childrens activities and information on
recycling.
FAIRMEAD PRIDE WEEK 2nd – 7th
August
During Pride in Fairmead a visual audit of the Fairmead estate
was carried out, looking for environmental issues. 22 issues
were noted and all of these will be actioned by various partners
and individuals within 6 weeks.

Four free skips were provided on the estate for two days, to
allow people to dispose of bulky items. These were well used
and should help to combat fly tipping in the area.
On the Monday afternoon a community consultation exercise was
carried out across the Fairmead estate. 11 members of MBC
staff took part in this door knocking exercise to ask people about
their views and opinions and how we can improve our services.
Over 50 homes on the estate were visited, resulting in 46 access to
services questionnaires being completed and 2 First Contact
referrals. Some of the points raised require a direct
response and action, which partners have agreed to do within 6
weeks, other comments will help to inform the future work and
activities of the Decent Place to Live group in their updated
action plan.
During the week the Fairmead residents association opened its
doors and invited residents to join them for a fish & chip
supper. Over 30 people from the estate turned out to enjoy
fish and chips. During the evening people were asked for
their views and any suggestions for improvements. 20
responses were received and the comments will be actioned upon
where possible.
On the Thursday a
community litter pick was organised. Four young people from
the estate took part alongside Sam Spencer, Resident Involvement
Officer and Lucie Keeley, Neighbourhood Support Officer. Bags
of litter were collected and everyone earned a well deserved ice
cream for their efforts.
The week ended successfully with a Saturday community fun day on
the estate including a free BBQ, climbing wall, dance, ten pin
bowling, football, face painting, children’s activities and urban
rebound.

Centre flats area was carried out, looking for environmental
issues. 13 issues were noted and all of these will be
actioned by various partners and individuals within 6
weeks.
The free bulky items collection and skips over two days was a
big success with many households taking the opportunity to throw
items away. Assistance was provided to people in the flats
who could not get bulky items to the collection
points.
On the Monday afternoon a community consultation exercise was
carried out with residents in the Town centre flats. 5
members of MBC staff took part in this door knocking exercise to
ask people about their views and opinions and how we can improve
our services. Over 20 homes were visited, resulting in 16

to the First Contact scheme. Some of the points raised
require a direct response and action, which partners have agreed to
do within 6 weeks, other comments will help to inform the future
work and activities of the Decent Place to Live group in their

Two chair based exercise and health check sessions were
organised at St Johns Court and Granby House, and were open to all
residents living in the town. The exercises sessions and
health advice provided aimed to help people to remain independent
in later life.
On the Thursday a free fish and chip lunch was organised at St
Johns Court and Granby House. Due to the high demand both
venues had to be used and 60 older people enjoyed lunch and the
social opportunity to meet up with one another.
