Youth Day 2009

After successful youth events in the past, Action for Youth in conjunction with the Melton Youth Council will be running a Youth Day to be part of the local democracy week promotions and will take place a week before their annual youth conference. Last year the young people in Melton highlighted their main issues to include activities for young people, transport, sexual health and bullying.

The event will be held during the half term week on Thursday the 22nd October at the Melton Mowbray Cattle Market. Starting at 10am until 4pm there will be a host of activities, workshops and main events throughout the day covering a wide range of topics. A wide range of activites will be available for the 11 – 19 year olds that live or work in the Borough. There are many opportunities for young people to be involved and take part within their community and Action for Youth can help unleash this potential. We can help support young people who would like to come up with their own projects and perhaps even run a community event in the future.

On the day there will be various organisations on hand to offer advice on a range of issues from guidance on careers, education, learning and volunteering, signposting for issues around health, safety and wellbeing right up to information about local issues.

A number of interactive workshops will be taking place on the day to give young people a taster of activities such as climbing, skate boarding, radio presenting, world of media, yoga, youth bus, graffiti arts and much more.

The main events have been produced and developed by local young people, a battle of the bands, fashion show and a theatre production will showcase some of the work of the talented individuals within the Borough

The aims of the event:

  • To promote services, activities and organisations available to children and young people in the area. To give them a taster and desire to get involved.
  • To boost and enhance current provision (more volunteers, workshops, more members).
  • To inspire and encourage new provision.
  • To offer a positive view of young people.
  • To improve relationships between young people from different areas and communities.
  • To improve relationships between young people and the wider community, including local groups, organisations and services.

Free travel will be provided for young people throughout the Vale of Belvoir - you MUST fill in a consent form and return to Adam McGlone by Monday 19th October. Forms can be downloaded from The Jitty
