Council & Committees : Overview
In addition to those times when the Council meets as a whole, most of the Council's functions are carried out by its Committees. Policy functions are carried out by the three Policy Committees, ie. Community & Social Affairs Committee, Policy, Finance & Administration Committee and Rural, Economic and Environmental Affairs Committee. Regulatory decisions are taken by the Development and Licensing Committees. Scrutiny of how the Council is performing and of the decisions taken by the Policy Committees is carried out by the Overview, Scrutiny & Audit Committee. The Standards Committee's role is to maintain and promote high standards of conduct. The work of the Council is shared across Committees and these Committees form part of the decision-making framework of the Council. Each Committee has its own delegations and functions and these are listed in the Council’s Constitution.
