Council approves its 3 year financial strategy
Press Release
30 January
2012
The Borough Council approved its Medium Term
Financial Strategy for the next 3 years at a meeting of the
Council’s Policy Finance and Administration Committee held on 25
January 2012. A copy of the
Medium Term Financial Strategy can be downloaded.
This sets out how the Council will structure
and manage its finances during this period while being in a
challenging financial climate having already lost some £900k per
annum in central government grant with uncertainty over future
levels of central government financial support.
The Council continues to look for efficiency
savings including introducing changes to the way it delivers its
services and new ways of working whilst achieving a balanced
budget, providing opportunities for growth in services and
providing value for money services to the public it serves.
The Leader of the Council, Byron Rhodes,
said:
“Everyone knows these are difficult times for
local government. Melton Borough Council has managed to reduce its
costs by £900,000 pa to balance its books after government grant
was cut. This is no mean achievement and means that the Council can
continue to deliver vital services. We don’t know for certain what
will happen after March 2013 so we are being very careful not to
overextend our finances.”
