COUNCIL COMMENCES GREEN TRAVEL PLANNING
PRESS RELEASE
27 October 2009
The Council has confirmed that it will be developing green
travel plans for its own and partners’ staff at the New Offices at
Burton Street.
This will include looking at incentives for
staff to walk, cycle, car share and use public transport to get to
work.
The current draft plans show approximately 100
spaces for the building in addition to the Council retaining the
current Burton Street car parking capacity for Pay and Display
(approx 250 spaces).
A Council spokesperson said:
“It is expected that a green travel system for
the staff will be introduced to ensure that our carbon footprint is
minimised and car parking managed effectively.”
The proposed scheme will include a full
traffic assessment and the Council looks forward to providing a
much improved access to the site as part of this project.
The Council also recognises that there will be a balance between
regeneration of a derelict area, the resultant traffic impact and
the desire of the public for car parking in a town centre location.
The proposed office scheme is less intensive than previous
successful retail/mixed planning application for this site.
