Council Completes Deal with Sainsbury’s

The Council is pleased to announce that the contract with Sainsbury’s for the acquisition of its Nottingham Road site has now been completed and the ownership of the land through a 125 year lease has now transferred to them.  This sale excludes Phoenix House and its associated Northern Car Park.

Councillor Byron Rhodes said “Staff will be working closely with Sainsbury’s and other partners on the exciting employment opportunities that this new site offers for the Town and the people that live near and around the store.  We will also work with them to ensure that residents and near neighbours are kept informed as the work gets underway”

“In addition the substantial receipt that the Council has now received will mean that this Council’s finances are significantly more secure as well as providing the opportunity for future investment in the Borough.  We are currently looking at initiatives such as broadband enhancements that will stimulate economic development and job creation for the Town and the Borough’s Rural Area.”
