COUNCIL LISTENS TO PUBLIC

An update on the new Council Offices planned for Burton Street will be given to the Council's Policy Finance and Administration Committee on 6 July 2009. Results from the consultation process that was undertaken in March/April of this year will form part of their considerations.

 

The public's responses told the Council that:

45% preferred a traditional design : 21% modern : 34% a mix of both.

 

  • 48% indicated a preference for a discreet building : 52% a landmark building. 
  • In terms of the quality of finish in the public spaces 62% considered it should be high quality.  38% medium quality.
  • It was considered that the building should be energy efficient.
  • In terms of whether or not extra money should be spent to make it more green 55% said No : 45% said Yes.
  • As to whether additional revenue should be generated, 97% said :Yes: 3% said No.
  • Should the Council compete with other venues?  Yes 87% : No 13%
  • It was felt that there should be a variety of uses for the Civic Suite.
  • As to whether there should be car parking: 94% said  Yes :  6% said No.
  • In terms of charging for car parking: 66% said  No :  17% said Charge Staff.  14% said Charge Visitors.

 

This feedback will be taken into account by the Council and its Design Team, EC Harris, in planning and building the new offices.

More consultation is planned.  Please watch the Council's website http://www.melton.gov.uk/ for further updates.

 

The Council has had volunteers already from the people of Melton to work with them on a consultation group and is in the process of setting this up.
