COUNCIL MEMBERS MEET WITH SIX PAST MAYORS,
CIVIC AND HISTORICAL SOCIETIES
PRESS RELEASE
19 August 2009
On Tuesday 18th August 2009 the Council met with six
Past Mayors and the Civic and Historical Societies, who have been
corresponding with the Council, to listen to their views and
concerns regarding the Council's decision to move its offices to
the Town Station Site and dispose of part of the Nottingham Road
site.
Councillor David Wright, Deputy Leader who chaired the meeting
said "We wanted to explain to the group of invitees why and how the
Council has made the decisions it has. I hope that our
current position was made clearer to them and whilst we clearly
have a difference of opinion on these issues I hope that we can all
now move positively forwards."
Councillor Malise Graham said "The huge opportunities that the
two projects offer the town in economic terms are enormous.
It is always an option to stay as you are but this was not a
decision that Members made". There will be further public
consultation both by ourselves and Sainsbury's prior to planning
applications being submitted which will also have a consultation
process.
The Council will be consulting shortly on the initial designs
for the new building through a special Melton Mail and consultation
meetings. It has also updated its website with the latest
information that it available.
