COUNCIL OPPOSES WINDFARM PROPOSAL
PRESS RELEASE
3rd SEPTEMBER 2009
Melton Borough Council will be heading up local opposition to a
windfarm proposal half a mile to the north Bottesford. The proposal
met with strong objection by local residents and at a public
meeting held on 27th August, the Council's Development
Committee agreed that the effect the windfarm would have on the
countryside would be unacceptable, especially because of the number
of historic buildings and views in the area.

The Government will have the final say and the decision will be
made after a Public Inquiry is held in February 2010. Cllr Mark
Barnes, Chairman of the Committee said: "we understand that we need
clean energy and wind power has a part to play in this. However, we
must ensure development takes place in the right places and there
is a clear track record that the Vale of Belvoir is not the correct
location for this scheme". Regarding the Inquiry he added: "The
Council will champion the clear messages it heard from local
residents why the location is wrong. Public Inquiries are expensive
and demanding events but this Council is determined to ensure local
people's views are properly taken into account".
