GOT A SMALL ELECTRICAL ITEM THAT’S LOST IT’S SPARK?

PRESS RELEASE

30th November 2010

Got any old electrical items lying around at home, broken or past their prime?

From kettles to camera’s, from torches to toasters, from power drills to hairdryers, you can now recycle the lot.

Electrical waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK increasing by 5% every year, with over 2 million PC’s end up in landfill sites every year. Recycling these products helps prevent pollution and saves precious resources by recycling the plastic and metal into new products.

Melton Borough Council are launching a new initiative on December 17th 2010 which will see special pink recycling banks appearing at a number of recycling sites in Melton. The recycling site at Tesco, Thorpe Road will be the first site in Melton to have one of the new ‘Pink’ electrical  goods recycling bins, with further locations  to be added in the new year. Cllr Diane Orson said “This is an exciting initiative that will help reduce waste in the Borough and increase our already impressive recycling rate of 50%. We are always looking to add additional materials to the range we can have recycled and this new scheme not only does that but is also of great environmental benefit by helping to keep toxic chemicals and metals that are part of most electrical items out of landfill sites ”

So this Christmas an  easy way to avoid house clutter and get rid of unwanted items without having to throw them away is to take them to Melton’s main Tesco store and put them into one of those special pink recycling banks, but make sure it can fit into an opening of 388mm x 590mm. All residents that recycle an electrical item at the new site on Friday the 17th of December between 10:00 am and 14.00 will receive a FREE reusable bag and be entered into a prize draw to win a Nintendo Wii Console with Wii fit plus.
