Housing Plans to go on Display for Second Time

Press Release

22 December 2011

Local residents will have another opportunity to attend a public exhibition and view plans for new housing development to the north of Melton.

The consultation event will take place on 12th January 2012 at the new Council offices at Parkside, Burton Street, Melton Mowbray.  The exhibition will be held in the Reception area and will operate as a drop in session between 1700 and 2000.

Last month (9 November), a public exhibition took place which provided the local community with a chance to find out more about the urban extension, as well as finer details such as the location of community facilities such as a new school, transport links and open space.

However, a small number of the 300 or so people who attended felt that, despite over 1000 invitations being sent out, it had not been advertised sufficiently as there was no formal advertisement.

Councillor Rhodes (Leader of the Council) commented: “We know how important it is that our local community have the chance to view and comment on these plans.  We are more than happy to hold a second event where interested parties can see the masterplan options and speak to the team responsible for preparing them”.

Councillor Rhodes continued: “ We have chosen to wait until the New Year to hold the event because we know most people are busy in the Christmas period.  We will also extend the consultation period to the 31st January 2012 to allow time for interested parties to consider their view and send them in to us.”

In the meantime, a static exhibition will remain in the Parkside reception for the public to view during normal office opening hours.

The Masterplan will help the Council develop the Core Strategy which will identify housing, employment and other strategic development together with the investment needed to deliver them for the Borough up to 2026.
