Parking Permit scheme proposed for Town Centre flats
Press Release
29 July 2010
Melton Borough Council is
consulting tenants and leaseholders, who live in the Council owned
flats in Melton Mowbray town centre, on introducing a car parking
permit scheme.
The process started 12
months ago following a number of complaints and a request from the
Tenants’ Forum Executive Committee (TFEC) to investigate how people
other than tenants and leaseholders could be prevented from taking
the car parking spaces that are needed by those who live there.
The Council has received
over a 60% return on the consultation to date and as a result are
now investigating putting an affordable scheme into place. The
scheme being proposed involves tenants/leaseholders applying for a
permit and also a visitor permit if needed.
The first round of
consultation took place on Tuesday 27th July with
further consultation planned for August.
The feedback has
supported a permit scheme so long as charges are fair. All comments
received will be considered before final recommendations are made
to Councillors.
