SOUNDING BOARD CONSULTATION ON NEW
BUILD
PRESS RELEASE
27 OCTOBER 2009
The Council held its third meeting with the Sounding Board on
Monday 19th October 2009, the Sounding Board comprises
of local individuals who have expressed a special interest in
getting involved in the project. This meeting was attended by the
Leader of the Council and other Members, officers and experts
closely involved in the project and had a good turnout from members
of the Sounding Board.
At this meeting the Leader of the Council
explained fully the steps that had been taken by the Council to
arrive at its decision to relocate to the Burton Street site. This
was followed by a presentation by Paul Turner from Archial showing
the amended designs, many of which had been made in response to key
points that had been raised by stakeholders in the feedback
process, including those by the Sounding Board at a meeting a week
earlier.
Members of the Sounding Board were able to
provide their opinions and further feedback on the design and there
was a healthy discussion and exchange of views on the design, how
the building would work and the sustainable aspects of the design.
Members of the Sounding Board identified those areas of the design
which they liked and also expressed where they had concerns. Some
suggestions and opinions were offered on how the design could be
further improved.
This third meeting of the Sounding Board was
generally well received by all in attendance and the architect Paul
Turner commented “This is a great opportunity for local people to
get into detailed discussions about the design and how the building
works. There is an element of challenge, which is also important
and again there have been some really useful comments which we will
take away and consider in coming up with a further design – I was
very pleased with the feedback we have received.”
