Councillors and democracy
There are 28 Councillors serving on
Melton Borough Council. They are each elected for a 4 year
term and represent different Wards (or areas) within the Borough
(see Map on the following link):-
The current Leader of the Council is
Councillor Byron Rhodes (Conservative).
The next Borough Election is to be held in
May 2015.
Melton is a Fourth-Option Council,
which means that, with a population below 80,000, we could
opt to retain a modified committee system with a Scrutiny
function.
Decision-making is by three main
policy committees, two regulatory committees, a Standards Committee
and an Overview, Scrutiny & Audit Committee.
The Council and Committees meet in
four cycles a year details of which may be found at the following
link - Calendar of
Meetings 2011/12
Membership of the Committees is
determined each year at the Annual
Meeting. The Memberships for 2011/12 were approved at the
Annual Meeting of the Council on 19 May 2011 and are available on
the Committees & Decision making page
