National Referendum
A National Referendum on the voting system for United Kingdom
Parliamentary Elections will be held on Thursday 5 May 2011 and
will be combined with with the local government elections across
the Melton Borough.
At present, the UK uses the 'first past the post' system to
elect MPs to the House of Commons and voters will be asked if the
'alternative vote' system should be used instead.
Voters will recieve their ballot paper at their normal polling
station within the Borough of Melton which will be open from 7 a.m.
to 10 p.m. on Thursday 5 May 2011, providing they are registered to
vote. Details on registering to vote and applying for a
postal vote can be found in our Frequently Asked Questions.
