How can I vote?
Your name has to be on the Register of Electors for you to be
able to vote. If you are unsure if your name is on the Register see
How do I check that I am on the
Register to find out how to check the Register. If your
name is not on please see How do you get on the Register of
Electors and apply for your forms.
If you apply to go on the Register close to election time there
is a cut off point at which it is too late to get on to the
register to be able to vote. To be able to vote at the
forthcoming Parliamentary Election on 6th May we need to
have received your rolling registration application by
20th April 2010. This date is usually the 1st of
the month preceding the month that the election is in. If you
name is on the register and you do not already have a postal vote
you will be sent a poll card. This card will tell you the
date of the election, hours of poll, where your polling station is
and which ward you are in.
On Election Day go along to your polling station and the polling
station staff will be able to assist you if you have any
difficulties. They will also explain to you the voting process if
you have not voted before or you are unsure of the voting
system. If you are unable to attend the polling station as
you are to be away on holiday, business or any other reason you may
like to apply for either a postal vote or a proxy vote; please see
How do I apply for a Postal or Proxy Vote?
