How do you get on the Register of Electors?
ANNUAL CANVASS
Melton Borough Council is required to carry
out an Annual Canvass each year between August and November.
In August an Annual Canvass form will be
delivered to every household in the Borough and listed on this are
all the people we currently have registered on the Register of
Electors in the property. You must by law return the form
each year, whether you choose to vote or not is your choice.
The Register of Electors is often being used
to confirm individual’s address, especially if they are applying
for credit for a mortgage, personal loan, a job or even a mobile
phone.
If you are not registered you will probably be
refused credit as well as losing your right to vote and have your
say via the ballot box.
You need to be included on the registration
form if you are:-
Living at an address with Melton Borough on the 15th
October
18 and over
16 and 17 year olds if they will be 18 by the 30th
November 2011
British, Irish, European of qualifying Commonwealth citizens -
List of eligible
Countries.
Don’t assume that because you registered last
year that your name will be automatically included in this year’s
Register of Electors. Also, being on the Council Tax Register
does not automatically mean that you are on the Register of
Electors, the two registers contain different information.
HOW TO COMPLETE THE ANNUAL CANVASS FORM
No changes to be made to the
form
You should check that all the details on the
form are correct, if they are you can either –

no changes to the existing details by using 0800 197 6181
To use the last service you will need to have
your two part security code to hand, this is printed on the top
right hand side of your registration form. Further
information about using these services is printed on the

You have changes to make to your
canvass form
You are not able to use the freephone,
internet or sms texting if you have changes to make to your
form. You must make any changes on the canvass form and
return it to us by post.
If people have moved out simply cross their
names out and write the names of the new occupants in. If you
have changed your name or there is a spelling mistake, cross out
the incorrect name or spelling and write in the correct
details.
