Accommodation Certificates

For individuals requiring a VISA for admission
to the UK part of the requirement is that there is adequate
accommodation waiting for them, without recourse to public
funds. An accommodation certificate may be required to
support the VISA application.
The application for the accommodation
certificate must be made by the householder.
To obtain a certificate an officer must
inspect your property in order to assess its condition and
suitability for occupation. It may be necessary to measure
each room and assess any hazards that may be present. The
room sizes will be used to calculate the maximum number of people
able to live in the property, as a single household, therefore
ensuring the property is not overcrowded.
The Council provides a service whereby upon
payment of the appropriate fee it will inspect a property and
confirm for immigration purposes if the dwelling meets the
minimum legal standard under Part 1 of the Housing Act 2004, and
would not become overcrowded by the addition of an extra person or
persons.
