Dog Warden Service – Collection of Detained Dogs Only

 

The Dog Warden Service for Melton Borough Council is contracted out for the collection of stray dogs only which have been detained by a person. You can call the Council between 9:00 and 17:00, please telephone 01664 502502 and speak to Customer Services who will arrange for collection from you or put you directly in contact with the Dog Warden Service. They will collect the detained dog within 2 hours.

 

Kennels

The kennels used by Melton Borough Council are College Garth Kennels, Derby Road, Hathern, Loughborough LE12 5LD.  Telephone: 01509 842327.

 

Kennel Opening Hours

The kennels are available for collection of stray dogs between the following hours:

 

Monday-Friday                                        08.00-12.00 and 13.00-17.00,

Saturday                                                 09.00-12.00 and 13.00-16.00, and on

Sunday                                                    09.00-12.00.

 

If nobody is available at the kennels to take your call, leave your name, telephone number and a description of your dog (if you have lost it) and someone will return your call.

 

Reporting Lost, Found and Stray Dogs

 

To report a lost, found or stray dog during normal office hours please telephone 01664 502502 and speak to Customer Services.

 

Customer services will maintain a register to try and reconnect owners and their dogs

 

College Garth Kennels, Derby Road, Hathern are also available to accept strays during the above hours.

 

Out of Hours Service:

This service is available for detained stray dogs between the following hours:

 

Monday to Friday                                                    17:00 – 22:00 hours

Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays                        09:00 – 22:00 hours

By working in partnership with College Garth Kennels, we are able to provide a cost-effective service, backed by the resources and experience of one of the areas best-known kennels. Both the Council and the kennels have a common goal: to encourage all dog owners to be responsible about looking after their pets, and to ensure animals (and people) are not put at risk by thoughtlessness.
