Fireworks
Because fireworks are explosives and burn at
high temperatures great care is needed when handling them.
Time restrictions for the setting off of
fireworks
Under the Fireworks Act 2003 it is an offence
for the under 18s to possess fireworks in a public place and for
anyone to let fireworks off during night hours (11pm to 7am) except
on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year
(1am).
Safety
You should only use fireworks that are on sale
to the public. These will be marked BS7114. On no account should
category 4 fireworks be used. These are marked 'this device
must not be sold to, or used by, a member of the public'.
These are to be used by professionals only.
- All fireworks must be stored in flame resistant
containers.
- Keep the container upwind from the display and bonfire and keep
covered at all times.
- Ensure that the fireworks and bonfire are not left unattended
when set up,
- keep fireworks secure prior to display.
- Follow the specific instructions on the fireworks.
- Ensure that they are stacked and angled away from spectators
before they are fired.
- Ensure that the instructions on fireworks are read prior to the
event and be aware of the site limitations including maximum safe
distances when choosing fireworks.
If you must have your own firework display,
remember that too much noise can frighten people and animals, and
that fireworks can cause smoke and pollution.
