Radon Information Leaflet
Radon is a chemical element with the symbol Rn
and atomic number 86. It is a radioactive, colourless,
odourless, tasteless gas which occurs naturally in the environment
as the decay product of uranium. Radon is generally
concentrated in ore-bearing rocks scattered around the world.
Radon is often the single largest contributor
to an individual’s background radiation dose.
Certain areas of the borough have larger
concentrations of Radon gas in the rocks than others.
