Warm Homes, Healthy People Grants - 2012
Melton Borough Council has been successful in
applying for Government funding to help make the homes of
vulnerable people in the private sector warmer in winter. The
Council has been awarded £195000 to allocate as grants between
January and April 2012.
***Funds are limited and we cannot guarantee
that all those eligible will get an award. The scheme may be
closed at short notice if funds have been allocated. As at
6th February 2012 we are adding eligible names to a waiting
list. ***
Eligible works
We are able to provide grants for
homeowners and landlords of
residential properties. Eligible works include:
1. The
provision of full central heating.
2. The
replacement or upgrading of an existing inefficient or failing
heating system*.
3.
Changing to a more efficient form of heating.
4. If the
property is eligible under any of criteria 1-3 above we will also
check that sufficient insulation is fitted and that the property is
safe and weatherproof. We may provide grant funding for essential
repairs to one or more of the key building components (these
include the external components of the property plus internal
components that have potential safety implications).
*Inefficient includes boilers in SEDBUK
‘F’ and ‘G’ category. This includes all boilers fitted with a pilot
light. Boilers will be considered as failing where the service
engineer has certified that the boiler is faulty. We will not grant
fund replacement boilers merely because major component parts are
no longer available.
Who qualifies?
The property must be occupied by a vulnerable
person or persons (or be likely to be occupied by such persons in
the case of an application by a landlord).
Vulnerable persons
‘Vulnerable’ is defined as people in receipt
of one of the principal means tested or disability related
benefits. The grant awarded varies between 0%-100% of the
eligible expense.
If you are not classified as a vulnerable
person but occupy a property which could be occupied by a
vulnerable person and do not have an efficient full central heating
system, grant assistance towards part of the cost may be available.
The amount would be determined by completion of a means test.
Landlords
Landlords can apply for a grant where their
property is likely to be occupied by vulnerable people. The
maximum funding we can award in this situation is 50%.

Special reduced price for loft and cavity
wall insulation
As part of the Warm Homes funding, we have
negotiated a new lower price for loft and cavity insulation for
borough residents whose homes lack such insulation. The cost
is currently £75 for each measure, however those over 75 or on
benefits may get the insulation done for free.
This offer is only available for a limited
period and the special price will no longer be available once all
the funds have been allocated. If you are interested please
contact Heatseekers on 0800 1114968
as soon as possible.
Warmfront
Warmfront may also be able to assist where homes do not have
heating or insulation.
