HOME REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS - PRIVATELY OWNED HOMES

SUMMARY OF ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2012

 

Loans and grants to repair or improve property are available through the Council. Help to arrange works is also available for vulnerable occupiers.  These arrangements are summarised below:

 

Insulation

 

If you do not have sufficient loft insulation or cavity wall insulation in your home there are a range of grants and discounts that you may be eligible for. Melton Borough Council has an energy saving partnership with HeatSeekers (Mark Group) to provide this service. HeatSeeker vehicles will be visiting the area to carry our thermal imaging surveys to highlight homes which may benefit from improved insulation.

Home Repairs and Improvements

Funding is available between January and April 2012 for private sector housing owned by vulnerable people that requires improvements predominantly in heating provision.  Further information is available on the Warm Homes 2012 pages.

 

We also have a new partnership with the Home Improvement Trust to provide low interest or equity loans for repairs to properties occupied by vulnerable occupiers.  The Houseproud scheme will assist with repairs to make homes weatherproof, safe and comfortable. We will advise on the works required and help in arranging the most suitable finance. Details available from Environmental Health.

Disabled Facilities Grants

Grants for disabled adaptations to allow independent living are awarded by the Council. These are processed following referral by the occupational therapist at Leicestershire County Council Social Care

Warmfront Grants

This is a Government funded scheme which provides grants to help make your home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. This is for people who own their home or rent it from a private landlord and are in receipt of certain benefits.

Leicestershire Handyperson Service

Mears Home Improvement's 'Handyperson' service is for older people, or people with disabilities, to undertake those small repairs and DIY jobs that local tradesmen don't usually want to do, or charge high call-out fees for. No job is too small and there is no call out charge. Services include smaller 'DIY' jobs such as putting up shelves and curtain rails and basic electrics and plumbing.

Alternative Forms of Heating and Energy Saving Measures

Advice on Solar heating, other alternative forms of heating or a range of other energy saving measures can be obtained from the Energy Savings Trust.
