Busking
The provision of regulated entertainment, such
as live music or dancing is a licensable activity under
the Licensing Act 2003. It may be that some
busking is a licensable activity.
Melton Borough Council and Melton Mowbray Town
Estate have, however licensed many streets and parks in the town
for regulated entertainment. Accordingly in most cases general
busking would be accommodated by these licences and a separate
licence is not required. If you are considering busking in the
town you should seek permission from the licence holders as a
courtesy and to ensure you understand any conditions and timings on
their licences.
Please contact the Licensing Section or see
the Licensing Act 2003 Public Register elsewhere on
this website to find out the name of the licence holder. You should
also ensure that your performances do not cause a noise
nuisance.
At the present time the following streets and
areas within the town centre are licensed for regulated
entertainment:
- Nottingham Street and High Street
- Cheapside, South Parade, King Street and Market
Place
- Play Close, New Park and Priors Close
Please note that the above licences do not
exempt you from ensuring you have any required permissions from the
Performing Rights Society or Phonographic Performance Limited. If
in any doubt you should contact these organisations for further
advice.
