Small Lotteries (raffles)
Small lotteries do not need to be registered.
To be classed as a Small Lottery the lottery must be conducted as
an incidental part of some other event, such as a fete, bazaar or
dance. These types of draw usually involve the sale of ‘cloakroom
tickets’.
Note that:
- Tickets must only be sold on the site of and during the course
of the event
- No advertisement for the event shall include the Lottery as the
only or substantial inducement to attend the event.
- The result must be declared at the event.
- No money prizes shall be awarded
- The whole proceeds of the event (including the proceeds of the
Lottery) must be devoted to purposes other than private gain.
However, sums may be deducted from the proceeds to help towards the
cost of the event, printing of tickets and the provision of
prizes.
