Street Trading
Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous
Provisions) Act 1982, a District Council may resolve that a permit
is required by anyone wishing to carry out street trading within
its boundaries. At the present time though Melton Borough Council
has not made these resolutions and accordingly there is no permit
required.
Please bear in mind however that
Melton Mowbray
Town Estate administer street trading and the market stalls
within much of the town centre and must be consulted with.
Food businesses wherever they are within the
borough must be registered with Environmental Health and you should refer
to them for further guidance. In addition, anyone wishing to sell
hot food or drink after 11pm at night must have a licence
for Late Night Refreshment, issued under the
Licensing Act 2003. This includes mobile food vans
that operate anywhere in the borough. Please see the
separate sections on this website for Environmental Health and the
Licensing Act 2003 for further information.
