Taxi Licensing

All hackney carriage and private hire drivers and vehicles are governed by the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 and the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976. They must also conform to a set of Licensing Conditions and the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy. Other legislation governing taxi drivers can be found in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, Transport Acts 1980, 1981, 1985 and Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

If a driver or vehicle fails to meet these standards they could have their licence suspended or revoked and in some circumstances may face prosecution.
