CONSULTATION ON Hackney Carriage TARIFF INCREASE

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Melton Borough Council in pursuance of powers granted under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provision) Act 1976 has made a Table of Fares for Hackney Carriages as set out in the Schedule hereto attached.

A copy of the Notice will be deposited at Parkside, The Cove Children’s and Community Centre, Sysonby Street, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE13 0LP, and The Edge Children’s and Community Centre, Dalby Road, LE13 0BQ for a period of 14 days from the date of publication of this Notice, and will be available for inspection without payment at all reasonable hours.

Following a request from Hackney Carriage Drivers and Operators to increase the tariff for fares for journeys within Melton Borough, consultation papers were sent to all Hackney Carriage drivers in Melton Borough and they were asked to suggest proposals for a new tariff. Out of 85 drivers 42 responses were received identifying 7 options from ‘no increase’ through to increases in the ‘drop’ and ‘running mile’.

The drivers met on 19th October 2011 and discussed the tariffs. The drivers unanimously voted in favour of a tariff increase and opinions were canvassed from those present on which proposed tariffs was considered to be the most appropriate. The majority ruled in favour of a minor increase in the drop rate, reducing the distance of the drop rate from 0.5 mile to 0.3 mile, with the running mile remaining the same.

On 16 November 2011 the Council's Rural, Economic and Environmental Affairs Committee resolved to accept the recommendation of the Head of Regulatory Services to proceed with the request to increase the tariffs that can be charged for journeys within the Borough.

A copy of the existing and proposed Table of Fares can be downloaded the increase in each tariff highlighted in red.
