Taxi licensing Enforcement
Enforcement
Expecting and maintaining a high standard of
vehicle and driver is something that we take very seriously and we
carry out regular checks of vehicles and drivers in order to ensure
that they are meeting their licensing requirements.
A recent inspection was carried out by
the Licensing Enforcement Officer assisited by the Vehicle and
Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and Leicestershire Police
Constabulary. A total of 25 vehicles were inspected and
only 8 were found to be of the required standard. Prohibition
notices were served to remove 6 vehicles from the road with
immediate effect, with the remainder of the sub-standard vehicles
served with remedial notices requiring works to be carried out to
the vehicle. Within 7 days of the inspection all of the
vehicle issues had been remedied and all vehicles were back
safely on the road.
The Council also pro-actively checks that
vehicles remain up to standard through routine compliance checks
and spot checks. Again, officers will require the
removal of vehicles from the roads which may constitute a serious
risk to public safety or require works to be carried out to the
vehicle to ensure that all hackney carriage or private hire
vehicles are of a high standard.
Prosecution
Prosecution can be used to deal
with serious issues relating to licensed or unlicensed
drivers, where an offence has been proven to have been
committed. However, we have to be able to provide detailed
factual information in order to substantiate any
allegation. We therefore welcome any information where there
are concerns regarding taxi drivers.
