What is a Personal Search?
Anyone can inspect the Local Land Charges Register upon payment
of the prescribed fee of £22.00 per property. You may also inspect
other public register held by the Council. Please note that
due to the fire at Melon Borough Council, references to the council
building in attached documents are no longer relevant, please use
the Contact number given to find out more information on location
of registers

24 hours notice is required and will need the name of the person or
company carrying out the search and the address of the property
being searched against; a plan via fax is also required. Your
appointment will be with an advisor in customer services who will
have the documentation to enable you to make your search of the
local land charges register and provide you with any other public
registers you require.

NOTE
Melton Borough Council’s
arrangements for accommodating a personal search of the Local Land
Charges Register and access to Local Authority information to
enable completion of Form Con29 Part 1 and 2 from 6 April
2009.
Any person may make a personal search of the
Local Land Charges Register between the hours of 9.00am to 4.00pm
Monday-Friday. The Local Land Charges Department is currently
situated at The Melton Mowbray Building Society, Leicester Road,
Melton Mowbray.

Where information does not form part of a
statutory register, public document or record, enquiries in
writing, on the form attached, may be submitted directly to the
Local Land Charges Section, together with a plan and the required
fee as per the copy of the fees attached. A report will be
issued at the time of your personal search appointment or posted
direct.
2. The Local Land Charges Register is
held in paper format.
3. At least 48 hours advanced notice for
an appointment is required giving –
the date and time of appointment
name of the personal search company
the address of the property/land to be searched
a clear plan to be emailed
form with requested enquiries to be emailed
4. An appointment system is operated by
this Authority on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Please
contact the Local Land Charges Department on 01664 502502 or email
landcharges@melton.gov.uk
for an appointment.
5. Payment is made at the time of the
appointment and cheques should be made payable to Melton Borough
Council. See below for list of fees.
6. Comments and suggestions can be made
to the Local Land Charges Department at Melton Borough Council,
Council Offices, Phoenix House, Melton Mowbray, Leics. LE13
0UL. A formal complaint about the service can be made in
writing to Customer Services, Melton Borough Council, Council
Offices, Nottingham Road, Melton Mowbray, Leics. LE13 OUL.

Highway Authority for this area.

mainly the Water Authority for this area. Some areas are
covered by Geodesy Limited.

PLEASE NOTE: It is the
responsibility of the person carrying out the search to identify
relevant information and make notes. Local Authority staff
can only offer factual clarification on matters.
There is a right to inspect the registers, however, there
is no right to copy this information by the way or use of
cameras, mobile phones, digital pens or by the use of USB memory
sticks) extracting copies in such a manner is not allowed, as
you would be in breach of copyright under, The
Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Copies can be supplied for
the above fee. Please make a request at the Customer Services
Desk and the Local Land Charges department will send you the
information in the post as soon as possible.
