Introduction
From April 2008, all planning applications
must be made on a standard national planning application form.
There is a different form for each type of application
and many applications also require a ‘design and access
statement’.
Do I Need Planning Permission?
The rules that govern whether permission is
needed and which type are quite complex. General advice is

the individual circumstances of each location and it is strongly
recommended that a definitive, site specific position is

Melton Borough Council offers a free service
to discuss applications before they are submitted. This can cover
not only if permission is needed, but also the information that
will be required to support an application and advice about the
factors that will determine if the application will prove
acceptable. It is firmly recommended that a pre-application meeting

Making an Application
To apply for planning permission, you must use the appropriate
form. All of the forms in the table below are accompanied
by specific advice notes to assist with their completion.
There is also the option of applying online, via the
Planning Portal, which can reduce the use of
paper plans and assist efficiency of processing, click on the link

Please note that there are now national validation
requirements and a local list of
requirements for the submission of a planning
application. These must be met to ensure that your application is
accepted and validated by the local planning authority.
Please note that should you include your email address on
the application form, all future correspondence that you receive
from the planning authority shall be sent electronically, rather
than by post.
Fees for the Submission of an Application
There is a charge for the submission of the majority of planning
applications and now for the submission of details in discharge of
a condtion of a planning permission. You can download

You may submit your application on line following the link above
to the Planning Portal. You may also pay for your application on
line by following this link to the
Council's on-line payment service.
