Planning Policy
The town and country planning system provides the main framework
for land use in Britain. This system aims to secure the most
efficient and effective use of land in the public
interest.
In Melton, most decisions on whether to allow proposals to build
on land or to change its use are made by Melton Borough Council. In
order to ensure that these decisions are rational and consistent,
they must be considered against the Development Plan and having regard to other
material factors. Decisions as to whether or not planning
permission should be granted are made under the system known as
Development Control.
The Policy and Performance Unit is responsible for matters
relating to the Development Plan, and in particular the
Melton
Local Plan, Supplementary Planning Documents, and work
on its replacement, the Melton Local Development Framework.
An interactive version of the
Local Plan is available which allows the site specific
policies relevant to a location to be identified.
