Melton Local Development Framework
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires all Local
Planning Authorities to prepare Local Development Frameworks to
replace Local Plans.
The Melton Local Development Framework (MLDF) is currently being
prepared and will replace the Adopted Melton
Local Plan. The MLDF will cover the period up to 2026.
Local Development Frameworks are made up of a portfolio of local
development documents (LDDs):
Development Plan Documents (DPD); these are
subject to independent examination and once adopted are part of the
statutory development plan as defined by Section 38(6) of
the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004; and
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD); these
provide detailed guidance and advice for policies or proposals set
out within a DPD. They are an important material
consideration when considering planning applications.
The system is designed to allow flexibility, so that authorities
can prepare those LDDs that are a priority and review LDDs to
reflect changing circumstances without having to review the entire
framework. This makes it easier to prepare policies and
proposals that reflect local needs and to keep them up to
date. The programme for preparing the documents that make up
the Melton Local Development Framework is published in the
Melton Local Development Scheme.
Local Development Documents are subject to rigorous procedures
of community involvement and sustainability appraisal.
Melton Borough Council also monitors the progress we have made
on the Melton Local Development Framework and the effectiveness of
the policies we use to determine planning applications. This
information is pubished each year in our Melton Annual Monitoring Report.
