The Melton Core Strategy

The Core Strategy will set out the vision and planning strategy for the Borough. It will cover the broad location of development and include the strategic policies for housing, business, retail and transport. It will not identify particular sites for development. The Land Allocations development plan document will consider and identify major development sites.

The Core Strategy (Preferred Options) DPD was published in January 2008.  This version of the Core Strategy is the second to be published.  It takes into account comments we received on the Core Strategy (Issues and Options) DPD published in April 2006.  The Core Strategy (Preferred Options) DPD is accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal which considers the social, economic and environmental effects of the policies and proposals of the document.

Consultation on the Core Strategy (Preferred Options) DPD has now finished and we preparing the Core Strategy (Submission) DPD.   We have started the process of considering the content of the document which will be published.  Although formal consultation has yet to be held on the submission document information on the likely content, including which directions of growth will be contained in the final version, is in the public realm.

Following the submission of the Core Strategy to the Secretary of State it is likely that an independent examination will then be held where anybody who remains unhappy with our Core Strategy can be heard by a Planning Inspector. The Core Strategy can only be adopted if it is found to be sound at Examination.

The programme for preparing the Core Strategy is published in our Local Development Scheme.  Community and stakeholder involvement in the preparation of the Core Strategy is published in our Statement of Community Involvement.

The preparation of the Core Strategy and other local development framework documents is underpinned by evidence studies. many of which are available to download from our website.

If you have any queries about the document please contact a member of the Policy and Performance team by email at ldf@melton.gov.uk or by telephone at 01664 502502.
