Supplementary Planning Documents
Supplementay Planning Documents (SPDs) provide detail to support a
policy or policies contained in either an adopted Local Plan or
Local Development Framework. SPDs do not form part of the Development
Plan. However, they are subject to rigorous procedures of
community involvement and sustainability appraisal and are an
important material consideration when considering planning
applications.
SPDs are effectively the modern equivalent of Supplementary
Planning Guidance (SPGs) under the previous planning Act.
In Melton there are several SPG which continue to be relevant
under the Melton Local Plan policies which have been saved
by the Secretary of State. The Council also adopts village
design statements and parish plans as Local Statements if prepared
in a thorough and robust manner.
A list of current Development Briefs and Planning Guidance is
set out below. Unfortunately, many of the Development Briefs
and Planning Guidance were destroyed in a fire at Melton Borough
Council's offices in May 2008. Links are provided below to
the documents we hold electronically.
