Village Inset Maps

The Melton Local Plan contains Inset Maps for those villages that have a settlement envelope where development may be acceptable in principle under the provisions of Policy OS1.  Whether development will be acceptable in principle will also depend on the sustainability of a village.  The Melton Core Strategy provides further guidance on this issue.  The Borough Council will have regard to this emerging policy as well as other planning guidance when considering development proposals in the villages.

The Melton Core Strategy proposes three categories of village:

Category One & Two; These villages are only suitable for small-scale infill development within their existing built form
Ab Kettleby Asfordby Hill
Asfordby Bottesford
Buckminster Croxton Kerrial
Edmonthorpe Frisby on the Wreake
Gaddesby Great Dalby
Harby Hose
Knipton Long Clawson
Nether Broughton Old Dalby
Queensway Redmile
Scalford  Sewstern
Somerby Stathern
Thorpe Satchville Twyford

Category Three: These villages and hamlets would not be suitable locations for new housing or employment development.  However, this would not normally prevent house extensions, replacement dwellings or other development that is acceptable in the countryside
