How is my waste collected?

  • Recyclable materials are collected from the green and grey recycling boxes every week. Photograph of bins and recycling boxes
  • Non-recyclable waste is collected from the black wheeled bins every two weeks.
  • Garden waste is collected from the brown wheeled bins every two weeks.
  • This means that each week you will have a collection of recycling boxes and either your black or brown wheeled bin.

  • Alternatively, you can take your recyclable waste to any recycling sites in the borough. Recyclable and non-recyclable household waste can be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres.

How can larger items be disposed of?

For disposal of items too large for normal waste collection, there are several options:

  • Melton Furniture Project accepts good-quality furniture, small electrical items and bric-a-brac for reuse, which they collect free of charge from addresses in Melton Borough and Rutland. They can be contacted on 01664 410380.
  • FreecycleFreeuseit and 2recycle are all online services for donating and receiving usable household items of any size, with no money changing hands. The person who receives an item should expect to collect it.
  • Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) accept items of furniture, carpets and the like and recycle them as appropriate. Householders must deliver items to the HWRC in their own vehicles, since a collection service does not operate.
  • A bulky waste collection service is offered by Melton Borough Council for bulky items and there is a charge applied for this service.
