When does the brown bin recycling collection start?
- Monday 2nd April.
- Your 1st collection of brown bin recycling will be on the same
day as your old brown bin collection.

What will change with the brown bins?
- Recycling will be collected in the brown
wheelie bin, replacing the grey and green boxes.
- You can recycle more items, such as yoghurt
pots, cartons, plastic bags, telephone directories etc.

- There will be no change to where you leave
your bin out, or collection crews.
- There will be no change to the black wheelie bin collection

Can I still use my grey & green boxes?
- No, the recycling service has changed; we
will now be collecting brown bins only.

- These are no longer required for

Can I have more than one recycling bin?
- Items should be squashed (where possible) to
fit into the brown bin.
- Recycling which will not fit in the brown
wheelie bin will be accepted, but it must be presented next to the
brown wheelie bin, in a suitable container (NOT a black
bag) and MUST be clearly identifiable as
recycling.
- Properties frequently producing more recycling than will fit in
one bin may be eligible for a second brown wheelie

What should I do with large bits of cardboard?
- Large pieces of cardboard should be
plattened and placed in your brown bin.
- No polystyrene

What should I do with batteries?
Unfortunately batteries cannot be put in your
brown bin. Batteries can be recycled at:
- The Library, Wilton road, Melton
- Council offices, Parkside, Burton St,
Melton
Leicestershire County Council’s Recycling and
Household Waste Sites (tips) also accept batteries for
recycling.

What if I put the wrong materials in my brown bin?
- The collection crews will check for any
wrong materials in your bin.
- Putting the wrong materials in the recycling bin contaminates
more than just the contents of your bin, and will interfere with
the process of recycling the materials that should be in your brown
bins.

Will I get a collection calendar for the new service?
- You will receive a collection calendar which
will be sent through the post delivered along with a leaflet to
give you more information about how to use your new brown bin
recycling service. Or view them online here

Where do I put these bins? I don’t have enough space in my
house.
- We ask you to try to accommodate a brown bin
if at all possible.
- If it is not possible for you to store your
bins please contact us and we will arrange
a site assessment by a waste officer to look at alternative
arrangements.

I currently receive an assisted
collection, how will the new arrangements affect
me?
- Residents who are registered for this service will continue to
receive it if they still require it for the new services.

I use pink sacks for refuse and blue bags/boxes
for recycling. How will I get the new recycling
service?
- Flats and households that use pink sacks for their refuse will
be provided with a roll of brown disposable sacks to place their
recycling in, which will be delivered before the start of the new
service. This will be collected fortnightly. - If you require
additional bags please contact us.
What happens on Bank Holidays?
There are no bin collections on Bank Holiday Mondays, all services
move on a day. This means normal Monday collections
are carried out on Tuesday, and so on through the week.
If your normal collection day is Friday, your bin will be collected
