RURal Affordable Housing

the Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Housing Enabler

The Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Housing Enabler works in partnership with parish councils, local authorities, local communities, landowners, Housing Associations and the Homes & Communities Agency to find solutions to the shortage of affordable rural housing.

The Rural Housing Enabler can undertake independent research to investigate the need for rural affordable housing in villages or parishes and support parish councils to meet any local affordable housing needs.

The Rural Housing Enabler is able to work on up to six projects in the Borough at any one time; details of current projects can be found here.

The Council is responsible for directing the work of the Rural Housing Enabler within the Melton area. Melton Borough Council is also part of a sub-regional rural housing enabler group which works to;

  • Maximise the output of the Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Housing Enabler.
  • Give stakeholders an opportunity to ‘steer’ policies and plans.
  • Share information and best practice on affordable rural housing.
  • Promote rural housing issues within Members own organisations and beyond.
