How is your rent set
Rents are set using a prescribed formula as
set by Central Government since April 2002.
The formula is applied at an individual
property level and is based on property values at January
1999. Weightings are also applied which take into account the
number of bedrooms in a property and the relative prosperity of the
area, by comparison to national averages. Rents are uplifted
each year by the prescribed inflation factor and a convergence
factor to bring Local Authorities into line with other Social
Housing providers.
Local authorities are expected to converge towards a formula
rent for each of their dwellings by 2023/24
