Local Housing Allowance

 

Local Housing Allowance (LHA) was introduced in April 2008 as a new Housing Benefit scheme which currently only affects tenants and landlords of privately rented accommodation. The scheme had been designed to be a fairer and simpler way of working out Housing Benefit for people on a low income.

 

With effect from 1st April 2011 there have been some significant changes to the scheme particularly around the amount you may now expect to receive.  If you are an existing tenant you should already have been written to as follows - if you have not received a letter, recently moved address or are a new tenant please refer to the above link for further details
