To help reduce the risk of flooding and the damage it can cause, there is national advice to help plan for a flood before it happens, know what to do during a flood and recovering after a flood

Flooding from other rivers and streams

It is the londowners responsibility to ensure that a watercourase in not obstructed.  If you live on the edge of any watercourse, you have a responsibility to ensure that it does not become obstructed.

Protecting your home from flooding

It is your responsibility to protect your home in the first instance.

If you think that your home is at risk of flooding you may need to protect your home with suitable flood defence products.  The National Flood Forum is a charity set up to support those affected by flooding.  They have a list of available flood protection products.

In an emergency, sandbags may be purchased from many DIY outlets.  Sandbags are only a short term fix and may not be appropriate or effective in some flood risk circumstance.

We do hold a stock of sandbags to help protect vulnerable people and critical council infrastructure.  Sandbags are sent to the following locations for collection when there is a high risk of local flooding.

  • Bottesford - store at the Village Hall field, Belvoir Rd
  • Bottesford - store at Pinfold Lane allotments
  • Normanton - Little Covert Farm, Main Street
  • Muston - Peacok Farm, Woolsthorpe Rd.
  • Frisby on the Wreake – Village Hall, Water Lane

Please contact Bottesford Parish Council to arrange access.

In an emergency situation we may be able to deliver sandbags depending on individual circumstances and subject to available resources. Please call 01664 502502 for further information.

Further information and advice on flood risk and how to protect property is available from the Environment Agency and additional information can be found on the main Leicestershire County Council flooding page and the LLR Prepared website
