Melton Borough Council

Statement of licensing policy

The Licensing Act 2003 has been in effect since November 2005, it regulates persons and premises that provide licensable activities, which are; the sale or supply of alcohol, the provision of regulated entertainment and the provision of late night refreshment.

The council has a duty under the Act to carry out its licensing functions by promoting the four licensing objectives, each of which is of equal importance.

The four objectives are:

  • The prevention of crime and disorder
  • The prevention of public nuisance
  • Public safety
  • The protection of children from harm

The Act requires the council to have a Statement of Licensing Policy; this policy sets out how the council will administer its licensing functions under the Act. The policy must be kept under review and remains in existence for up to five years.

Following the latest consultation the new policy can be viewed below.
