Melton Borough Council

Dog waste bins

We are responsible for the provision, installation, maintenance and emptying of dog waste bins within Melton Mowbray town, and also for the emptying of dog waste bins in the Borough. Parish councils install the bins in the villages.

Dog Waste bins are emptied once a week in Melton town centre and twice a week elsewhere in the Borough.

If you see a dog waste bin which has been vandalised or damaged, please report it. On receiving advice that a bin has been damaged, or requires cleaning, we will inspect the bin and should it be considered necessary, arrangements will be made to have the bin repaired or cleaned.

The Environmental Protection Act 1990 says that if a person drops, throws, deposits or leaves anything that causes the defacement in a public place, they are committing a littering offence. The average fine for littering is £95 and can be as high as £2500.
