What data we collect
No personal information will be collected without express consent. There is no requirement for you to provide personal information and the data you provide will be anonymised, therefore we will not analyse or report data that will make you identifiable.
The surveys contain some open-ended questions. When providing free text answers, please do not disclose any information that may identify you (e.g. names, email addresses, reference numbers etc.). Your free text comments may be shared within Melton Borough Council.
If you choose to opt in to being invited to take part in further research and receive communications from the Council you will be asked to provide your name, email address and telephone number so that you can be contacted. We will not hold any other personal information about you without further consent and will only use your data for the purposes stated within this notice.
How we collect your data
Where you have consented to your personal data being shared with the Council we will separate it from the survey answers and therefore the survey will remain anonymized.
How we use your data
Melton Borough Council is what is known as the ‘controller’ of the data you provide to us and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
We take your privacy seriously and laws state that we must:
- Use your data fairly, lawfully and be open with you about how we use it
- Use your data for a particular purpose and we must not do anything with your data which is not compatible with this
- Keep your data accurate and delete any inaccuracies without delay
- Obtain from you only the data which is necessary
- Keep your data only for as long as necessary
- Store your data safely and securely
Where you have consented to your personal data being collected we will use it to contact you about further research and send communications from the Council.
The Legal Basis for Processing Data
We are processing your data for the purposes of consulting with you to monitor and improve our services, by obtaining feedback from those using our services. This is on the legal basis that this is necessary for a task we are carrying out to benefit society as a whole and in accordance with our powers as set out on s111 of the Local Government Act 1972.
The processing of personal data from the surveys is based upon consent from the participant. Participation in this research is voluntary, and you are free to decide not to take part if you do not want to.
We will not share or disclose any of your personal information without your consent, other than for the purposes specified in this notice or where there is a legal requirement.
Retention of Data
Where you have consented to us using your details for the purposes stated within this notice, we will keep such data until you notify us otherwise and/or withdraw your consent. You can withdraw your consent by contacting email@example.com
The law allows you to request the following with regard to any personal data that we hold. Where you have provided anonymous data, we will not be able to identify your responses and the following rights will not be able to be exercised.
- request access to your data
- withdraw your consent
- object to, or restrict, the processing of data
- rectify the data held
